Banana stem ( also known as vazhai Thandu in Tamil ) is rich in fiber content. It improves bowl movement and act as a good laxative. It helps to elimate and treat kidney stones and also removes toxins from the body. It cools the body and also very good for weight loss.
Banana stem soup and juice are very healthy. It can also be cooked as a vegetable. We can make porial , kootu , salad , sambar , raitha , juice , soup and so on.......... Have banana stem atleast once in a week in your diet and enjoy good health.
Ingredients:
1. Vazhai Thandu ---- 1 no ( 1/2 hand length )
2. green chillies ---- 2 nos
3. grated coconut ---- 1 tablespoon
4. Thuvar dhal ---- 4 tablespoons
5. mustard & urad dhal ---- 1/2 teaspoon
6. curry leaves ----- few
7. oil ---- 1/4 teaspoon
8. salt to taste
Preparation Method
1. Soak thuvar dhal in water for 1/2 hour.
2. Cut the vazhai Thandu into small pieces and soak this in butter milk till cooking.
3. Now heat a kadai add 1/2 teaspoon of oil , then add mustard & urad dhal, curry leaves and soaked thuvar dhal and fry for just 1 minute
4. Then add 4 to 5 tablespoons of water and close the kadai with a lid and cook for 3 to 4 minute in very low flame.
5. Then add slited green chillies , finely cutted pieces of vazhai thandu , very little salt to taste and close it with a lid and cook for 3 to 4 minute in very low flame .
6. Then open the lid , wait till all the water evaporates from it and add grated coconut and stir it for 1 minute and then put- off the flame.
serve this poorial for sambar satham and rasam satham
