Sorghum is the 5 th most important cereal ( after wheat oats corn and barley ) cultivated in the world. Sorghum bi-color is said to be karuncoolam in Tamil ( Irrumbu soolam ). sorghum bi-color has been used as an herbal remedy to give immunity to the body. It strengthen and energize the immune system. It helps to elimate toxic wastes from the body. It assists in the building of blood cells. It is known to have ability to revive sickle cell victims. It promotes the free flow of blood and lowers cholesterol levels.
Ingredients :
1. sorghum bi-color ---- 1 cup
2. kollu ---- 3 to 4 tablespoons
3. salt to taste
Preparation Method
1. Dry roast the kollu and remove the skin out of it. ( other wise you can use without removing the skin )
2. Soak sorghum bi-color for 1 hour in water, then wash it.
3. Then heat a pressure cooker add 5 to 6 cups of water soaked sorghum , roasted kollu parupu, salt to taste and close it with a lid and pressure cook it for 6 to 7 whistles.
4. Then cool it and open the lid and transfer it to a serving bowl.
serve this healthy porridge with parupu thovayal
Parupu thovayal
Ingredients
1. moong dhal ---- 3 tablespoons
2. dry red chilli ---- 1 no
3. salt to taste
4. curry leaves ---- few
5. garlic ---- 2 pod
Preparation Method
1. Dry roast the moongdhal , then along with that add the remaining ingredients and grind it to a coarse paste adding a very few water to it ( just sprinkling few water )
2. Then transfer to a bowl and serve it along with porridge.
