It is very simple dish made with ingredients that are readily available and has no complex flavors. It is a dish that we fall back on when we want a quick simple and nutritious meal but at the same time lazy to do much prepared work. Ex-specially during rainny seasons this hot paruppu sadam with pickle & Appalam tastes great !
Ingredients :
1. Rice ---- 1 cup
2. Thuvar dhal ---- 1/4 cup
3. broken channa dhal ---- 3 tablespoons
4. green chillies ---- 4 nos ( sliced )
5. small onion ---- 10 nos ( chopped )
6. Red chilli powder ---- 1 teaspoon
7. Turmeric powder ---- 1/4 teaspoon
8. Tomato ---- 1 no ( chopped )
9. ginger & garlic paste ---- 1/4 teaspoon
10. coconut milk ---- 1/4 cup
11. garam masala powder ---- 1/4 teaspoon
12. salt to taste
13. curry leaves , coriander leaves & mint leaves
Preparation Method
1. Heat a pressure cooker and heat oil or ghee and add garam masala powder , curry leaves , chopped onions , tomatoes , green chillies , ginger & garlic paste and fry for a minute.
2. Then add washed rice & dhals and fry for a minute.
3. Then add the requried amount of water. ( 3 to 3 1/2 cups depending on the rice you are using , while measuring water add coconut milk also. )
4. Then add salt to taste , Red chilli powder , turmeric powder , coriander leaves & mint leaves and close the lid and cook for 1 to 2 whistle.
Serve with Raitha , vadagam , Appalam or with pickle.
