We cook many dishes with kollu which is known as horse gram. Kollu rasam is normally prepared to treat cough / cold. If this is taken with white rice for 2 days when we have cold, the cold will be gone with no traces. kollu rasam is one of the traditional dishes. kollu has lot of medicinal valve and it is used in Ayurvedic medicine
Ingredients :
1. Tamarind ---- small lemon size ball
2. kollu ---- 2 tablespoons
3. black pepper ---- 1 teaspoon
4. jeera / cumin seeds ---- 1 teaspoon
5. coriander seeds ---- 1 teaspoon
6. dry red chillies ---- 3 nos
7. curry leaves & coriander leaves
8. salt to taste
9. oil / ghee ---- 1/4 teaspoon
10. mustard & fenugreek seed ---- few
11. Asofotida powder ---- 1/4 teaspoon
Preparation Method
1. Dry roast the kollu in a pan , grind the roasted kollu , pepper , jeera seeds & coriander seeds as powder.
2. soak tamarind in water & extract the tamarind water.
3. Heat a kadai with oil and then add mustard , fenugreek seeds , asofotida , curry leaves & red chilli.
4. Then add tamarind water , salt to taste , grinded powder and 1 cup of water and cook the rasam until the rasam bubbling finally add chopped coriander leaves.
* tips
* This is excellent for treating cold.
* The kollu rasam was also enjoyed as a soup.
