The palmyrah tree ( pannai maram in Tamil ) found in southern India. It belongs to palm family and its tender fruit is called nongu in Tamil. The season is very short and the fruits usually appear in early summer.
Noongu is known as the " Ice apple of south " for its cooling effect and translucent ice- like flesh. It contains minerals especially phosphorus and calcium. It is extremely cooling the body and it contains B complex vitamins like thiamine and riboflavin and no fat or carbohydrates.
