Bottle gourd is rich in dietary fiber with very low content of fat & cholesterol. It is rich in iron , vitamin B and vitamine C. Bottlegourd is an excellent vegetable for hypertension patients. It is a suitable vegetable for light , low- cal diets as well as for children , people with digestive problems , diabetics and convalescents. It is very effective in treating constipation and other digestive disorders. It also helps in treating urinary disorders , it serve as an alkaline mixture for treating burning sensation in urinary passage , caused by high acidity of urine.

Ingredients :
1. suraikai ( bottle gourd) ---- 1/4 kg
2. small onion ---- 5 nos ( chop it )
3. tomatoes ---- 2 nos ( chop it )
4. garlic ---- 2 pods
5. pepper ---- 1/4 teaspoon
6. turmeric powder ---- 1/4 teaspoon
7. cumin seeds ---- 1/4 teaspoon
8. clove / cinnamon each ---- 1
9. salt to taste
10. oil ---- 1/2 teaspoon
11. curry leaves few
preparation method
1. peel the skin and remove the big seeds and chop the suraikai into cubes and boil them with 2 cups of water with a pinch of turmeric powder.
2. mean while heat oil in a pan add cinnamon , clove , pepper , garlic one by one and saute for a minute. Then add onions and curry leaves and fry until it turns light pink , then add tomatoes and cook till its soft.
3. allow this to cool and grind to fine paste. once the surakai is cooked drain the water and keep it.
4. now blend the surakai to coarse paste with one cup of water, now add the ground paste to this and allow it to boil again , now add the suraikai boiled water.
5. now add cumin powder , pepper powder , salt to taste and boil in a sauce pan. when it starts to boil then put off the flame.
serve it hot.
