Thattai is a traditional south Indian snack, great to nibble with piping hot tea on a cold wintery day.
Ingredients:
1. Rice flour ---- 3 cups
2. Roasted peanuts flour ---- 1 cup ( varutha nilakadali powdered in mixi )
3. Broken bengal gram ---- 1/4 cup ( soaked in water for 1 hour )
4. sesame seeds ---- 2 tablespoons
5. Asofotida ---- 1/2 teaspoon
6. salt to taste
7. Butter ---- 2 tablespoons
8. Red chilli paste ---- 2 tablespoons
9. oil for deep frying
Preparation Method
1. Take a mixing bowl , add rice flour , roasted peanuts flour , salt to taste , butter , sesame seeds , Asofotida and red chilli paste and mix it well.
2. Then by sprinkling some water to the flour , make soft dough from it , but it should not be watery.
3. Then add the soaked channa dhal to the mixed dough and mix it well.
4. Now heat a kadai with oil for frying.
5. Then take a plastic sheet which is coated with oil.
6. Take small lemon size ball of prepared dough.
7. Now keep the dough ball in the plastic sheet and press this by your hand or a wide base vessel to make small circle.
8. Fry it this in hot oil in medium heat till it is cooked well. ( you can deep fry 6 thattais at a time. )
9. Remove on kitchen tissues for excess oil , then cool and store in air tight container for about a month.
Serve as a snack with tea / coffee etc.
